AMD to invest up to $5bn in Anthropic in massive AI server deal

According to AMD's official partnership announcement, Anthropic will deploy up to two gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450-series GPUs through the company's Helios rack-scale systems. The first one-gigawatt deployment is expected to begin during the first half of 2027. The agreement gives Anthropic more computing capacity for training and running Claude.
Anthropic plans to deploy AMD's Helios platform, which combines MI455X accelerators, EPYC "Venice" processors, Pensando networking products and AMD's ROCm software. The companies said they will use Claude to optimise workloads for AMD Instinct GPUs and accelerate development of ROCm. AMD will also adopt Claude across its engineering and product development teams.
AMD has committed to make a future equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic. Reuters reported that the funding will be tied to infrastructure deployment milestones. The deal follows AMD's six-gigawatt infrastructure agreement with OpenAI, which is due to begin with a one-gigawatt MI450 deployment in the second half of 2026.
