NASA awards Blue Origin Mars communications-network contract

NASA awarded Blue Origin a firm-fixed-price contract to develop the Mars Telecommunications Network, including a high-performance telecommunications orbiter. The contract has a maximum potential value of about $700 million and calls for delivery to NASA by Dec. 31, 2028. NASA expects the network to be operational at Mars by 2030, providing communications and navigation services for spacecraft operating on and around the planet.
