Waymo details custom chip for sixth-generation robotaxi system
Image: Primary Waymo said it built a 5 nm custom ASIC for its sixth-generation self-driving system, designed to process raw sensor data before it reaches the core driving computer. The company says the chip delivers more than 1,000 TOPS; the Ojai robotaxi uses 13 high-fidelity cameras. TechCrunch reports that Waymo has said the next-generation vehicle is cheaper to build, operate and maintain, and lists AMD, Micron, Nvidia, Samsung, Sandisk, Socionext and TSMC as partners.
