Iran recovers US Navy underwater drone near Strait of Hormuz

Iranian forces recovered a U.S. Navy Dive-LD autonomous underwater vehicle near the Strait of Hormuz after the 19-foot vehicle malfunctioned while surveying regional waters, according to a Reuters report cited by Tom's Hardware. Iran is likely to study and attempt to reverse-engineer the drone, analysts said. The Navy described the lost vehicle as an older, defective model that carried no classified sonar or radar equipment, while manufacturer Anduril markets the Dive-LD as highly reliable. A Hudson Institute analyst said Iranian engineers could reverse-engineer the mechanical systems but was more skeptical about penetrating its software defenses.
