U.S. authorities charged eight additional Iranian defendants alleged to be part of the Mabna Institute hacking-for-hire operation, expanding a 2018 case that had charged nine others. The Justice Department alleges the group stole academic research, intellectual property, emails and other proprietary data in operations beginning around 2013. The State Department is offering rewards of up to $10 million for information on five named defendants. All defendants are presumed innocent.
