Genie products move to pay-as-you-go pricing July 7 2026 in Azure Databricks
Image: Primary Genie products in Azure Databricks are moving to a pay-as-you-go pricing model on July 7, 2026, at 00:00 UTC, the company said in release notes. On that date, Azure Databricks begins charging for Genie product usage beyond a free monthly allowance. Each user receives 150 DBUs of free LLM usage every month, equivalent to about $10.50 in the US East region. Usage beyond the free allowance is billed in DBUs. The change applies to Genie products including Genie Spaces, Genie Code and Genie One. Account admins can configure budgets and cost controls in advance to track and control Genie spend for an entire account, specific workspaces, user groups or individual users, with alerts sent before limits are reached. Spend and usage data become available in the billable usage system table after pay-as-you-go billing begins. Details are available in the July 2026 release notes on the Azure Databricks documentation site at learn.microsoft.com.
