Citadel has purchased the bulk of Situational Awareness' public-equity portfolio after the artificial-intelligence-focused hedge fund suffered steep losses during a recent technology sell-off, according to a media report Thursday. The report said Situational Awareness, founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, rapidly sold much of its AI-focused equity portfolio following heavy losses tied to concentrated positions in AI-related stocks. Ken Griffin's Citadel acquired the holdings, the report said. Situational Awareness is expected to continue operating as a private investment firm and retains significant private-company stakes, including its investment in Anthropic, according to the report.
