New cliff elevator expands school access in Yunnan canyon
Image: Primary A 288-meter cliff elevator has opened in Nizhuhe Village, Yunnan province, alongside a 268-meter elevator built in 2022.
The new elevator is part of an aerial school-bus route for children traveling to Guanzhai Primary School, replacing a much longer journey over cliffside trails. Local outlet Yunnan Net said the two elevators together can carry 1,200 people an hour and raise the scenic area's daily visitor capacity from 4,000 to 15,000.
Students still need to take a cable car from the upper platform to reach the school.
