Colombia cancels Amazon fiber-network procurement Image: Primary
Colombia's government has canceled the procurement process for a planned fiber network spanning more than 1,600 kilometers in the Amazon, citing financial and technical risks. The Ministry of ICT project was designed to connect nearly 100,000 households and 227,000 people in Amazonas and Putumayo through sub-river, terrestrial and cross-border links. It had been approved in May with resources for implementation, operation and maintenance through 2035. The design also included a route to Brazil's InfoVías network and the South American Crossing submarine cable.
