OpenAI rolls out Health in ChatGPT with Apple Health and medical records integration

OpenAI announced Thursday it is rolling out Health in ChatGPT, a feature that lets users securely connect Apple Health and supported U.S. medical records so the chatbot can use personal health information during conversations. The company said more than 300 million people use ChatGPT each week for health-related questions such as understanding lab results and preparing for appointments. OpenAI said health information is often spread across patient portals, medical records, apps and wearable devices, making it difficult to view complete context. With permission, ChatGPT can use connected data to compare new results with previous tests, summarize changes since the last appointment, review medications and relate sleep, activity and workouts to user routines. The feature works with Apple Health, One Medical and Function Health. The company said GPT-5.5 Instant, available to Free users, improves recognition of when urgent care may be needed and simplifies complex health information. GPT-5.6 Sol, for paid users, improves reasoning across complex health details and clear communication. OpenAI said physicians tested the feature before release but ChatGPT can still make mistakes and does not replace qualified medical professionals. OpenAI said conversations are encrypted at rest and in transit, and connected health information receives additional encryption. Connected records and Apple Health data are not used to train foundation models or target advertisements. Users control when ChatGPT accesses health information and can disconnect accounts anytime, with synced data deleted from OpenAI systems within 30 days. Health in ChatGPT is rolling out to logged-in users aged 18 and older in the U.S. across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans on web and iOS.
