The Australian Energy Market Operator projects data centers will use 34 terawatt hours annually from the National Electricity Market by 2035-36, or 13% of the market, up from 3% today. The forecast appears in AEMO's annual Electricity Statement of Opportunities, which utilities and governments use for planning. The source also says developers have cancelled more than a third of the data-center projects AEMO listed the previous year.
