Sonic Fire Tech raised $15 million in a round led by the O.H.I.O. Fund, with Khosla Ventures participating, TechCrunch reported. The Ohio startup says it will use the money to hire and conduct tests needed for National Fire Protection Association approval of its sound-powered fire-protection system. The system uses sensors and a ceiling-mounted generator to send infrasonic waves through PVC pipes when a fire is detected. The company says its lithium-ion battery-fire work has so far contained, rather than extinguished, fires.
