AWS plans Sta'O'Nuk, a subsea cable system linking Washington state with Japan that is expected to enter service in 2029. The project is designed for 420Tbps across 20 fiber pairs. AWS is partnering with Toptana Technologies for the Washington cable landing station and backhaul services; Toptana has broken ground on its Ocean Shores facility. AWS has not identified the Japanese landing location, saying it will add geographic diversity from traditional cable corridors.
